Road Greetings from Northampton, NY!

Updated: Nov 13, 2020

So our second Road Greetings destination was Northamton Beach Campground in the Adirondack Mountains at a State Park of the same name, which ironically isn’t located in “The Hamptons.” It’s located about an hour West of Saratoga Springs, the city which is definitely worth a visit, and not only to watch the races. Many of the campground’s spacious sites in the dense pine forest meander the lakeside of Great Sacandaga Lake, where there’s plenty of sunbathing, boating and kayaking to be seen on this moderately sized lake, which contains about ⅓ of the volume of the entire Hudson River! If you enjoy kayaking you’re in luck because there are put-ins close by for you to enjoy all the beauty the lake has to offer - if you have your own kayak. If you’d rather bike or walk, there are plenty of paths at the campground too.

Within a ten minute drive, we ventured into a small, but certainly All-American, charming town Northville where the oldest operating 5 & 10 store in America Northville Five & Dime is still open for business. Here you’ll find tons of useful, reasonably priced goodies that range from souvenirs, vintage bags, t-shirts and sweatshirts to tools, electronics and household items. We walked around town and came across The Village Scoop Ice Cream Shop on Main Street, which served generous portions of the most delicious ice cream with many flavors for literally, just a few bucks. Wow, was it good on the 90+ degree day! We also went into a little shop Flower Barn that sold beautiful flowers and locally made, hand-crafted gifts that supported the community with sales of keepsake goods.

We camped in our new Popup Trailer, which pops up into our own cozy little hotel room. Okay - a hotel room may be a bit of a stretch, but it is essentially a small Travel Trailer built for those who have tent-camped, but are looking for an upgrade to more comfortable living quarters while on the go. In times of COVID, it makes perfect sense as it has everything a small hotel offers, except of course for the Room Service and Wake Up Calls.
